Are you a potato lover? Then this recipe of Jeera Aloo is for you, and if you are not, you should try this one. This simple potato fry is a welcome change without being overpowered with curry spices.
This recipe is such a simple recipe. Growing up in a vegetarian north Indian family, Potatoes were a favorite among us, especially kids. Indian recipes are full of potatoes even though potatoes came to India only a few hundred years ago, with Purtgalis.
We love our potatoes and are pretty proud of our dishes as well. Some potato dishes are creamy; some are crispy, some spicy, and a few are tangy.
What is Jeera Aloo?
Jeera Aloo means cumin seeds and potato. One of the most popular potato recipes across Indian restaurants. Their cooking style is not always the same for every restaurant or home, but the main ingredient remains.
This dish is a favorite of my youngest child. She loves the crispy taste and the shape. I like slicing potatoes and cooking them with cumin seeds—the easy side dish of all time. My grandmother used to cook potatoes like that, and we used to call them Potato wheels because of their shape.
The shape and size of the potato are not that important; making it perfectly crispy enhances the taste. Cumin seeds give them a rustic flavor. I use minced garlic and red pepper flakes to twist it. A wonderful indeed.

Serving suggestion,
Best to pair it with rice and dal. We usually serve this with white rice and Dal Fry/Dal Tadka ,Instant Pot Chana Dal, or Dal Palak (Spinach Dal). You can have this with Avocado Spinach Roti.

- Peel and wash the potatoes.
- Slice the potatoes in rounds.
- Take a pan and heat the oil in it.
- When its hot add cumin seeds.
- Let it crackle .
- Add Potatoes.Stir once and salt ,turmeric,and red pepper flakes.
- Cover the pan with a lid for 1 minute.Keep the flame low/medium.Remove the lid.
- Add minced garlic to the potatoes and stir to mix.
- Cook them on medium flame till they are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.
- That will take around 7-8 minutes.
- Remove them on a serving platter.
- Enjoy.
