What is Sattu?
Sattu is made of roasted chickpeas and is hence called roasted gram flour. However, this flour is quite different from besan in texture and taste.
Health Benefits of Sattu,
Sattu is considered a superfood. Growing up, we saw our grandmothers and mothers prepare sattu sherbet drinks in summer. They used to say that it helped us during the heat wave in North India.
It cools our body naturally and is an excellent source of protein, vitamins, and fiber. We always had sattu paratha, poori, or litti in our homes. The idea is to include sattu in the diet(if we want to increase our protein intake.
What Ingredients are needed for Sattu Paratha?
Sattu is sold in Indian grocery stores overseas and almost all over North India. However, if you cannot find it, Grind store-bought roasted kala chana /black chickpeas and use a sieve to get a smooth powder.
Mustard oil—This gives the sattu paratha an authentic taste. If you do not like or are not getting it, use the oil you choose, but the taste will be slightly different.
Pickle Masala- Another vital ingredient, and traditionally, only mango pickle spice is used.
Aromatics- Onion, garlic, green chili, lime juice, and chopped fresh cilantro.
Spices- Nigella seeds, carrom seeds, and salt.
