Instant Pot Moong Dal Tadka

Ingredients
  

  • ½ Cup Moong Dal/ Split yellow lentil.
  • 2 Tbsp Ghee/Oil
  • ½ Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Small Bay Leaf
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 Pinch Asafoetida Powder
  • 1 Medium Onion,chopped
  • 4 Cloves Garlic,minced or chopped
  • 1 Inch Ginger,chopped
  • 1 medium size Fresh Chili
  • 1 Big Tomatoes,ripe (chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ Tsp Red chili powder
  • ¼ Tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • ¼ Cup Fresh Cilantro for garnish.
  • 1 Tbsp Lime juice for sprinkle
  • 3 Cup Water

Method
 

  1. Turn the saute button of the Instant Pot on. Add ghee/oil to it.When it displays hot add whole spices like cumin seeds,bay leaves,cinnamon sticks.Let them crackle.
  2. Add chopped garlic,onion ,ginger and green chili.
  3. Saute till it looks transparent and raw smell is gone.
  4. Add chopped tomato ,salt ,turmeric powder,red chili powder to the pot.
  5. Add washed moong dal to it and saute along with everything else.
  6. After sauteeing for 30 seconds or 1 minute add water to the pot .Stir once and close the lid.
  7. Cancel the saute button and cook on high pressure for 4 minutes.
  8. Let the steam come out after 4 minutes.
  9. Whisk the dal (if you want a smooth preparation) leave just like that if you like texture grainy.
  10. Taste the dal to adjust the salt and add lime juice ,cilantro at this time.
  11. Enjoy with rice or roti or just like soup.
