Easy Soft Dahi Bhalla /Dahi Vada Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • ½ Cup Moong Dal /Green Gram Lentil
  • ½ Cup Urad dal /Black lentil
  • ½ Tsp Grated Ginger
  • 1 Small Chopped Green Chili
  • 1 Pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 Pinch Salt
  • Oil for frying Vadas. I usually use mustard or avocado oil for frying.
For serving the Dahi Vada/Dahi Bhalla
  • 4 Cup Thick plain yogurt/Home made curd.
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tsp salt
  • Green Chutney as per need
  • Sweet Tamarind Chutney as per need
  • Roasted Cumin Powder
  • Red Chili Powder
  • Black salt
  • Pomegranate seeds

Method
 

  1. Wash lentils under cold water till the water runs clear.
  2. Soak over night or for six hours in sufficient water.
  3. In the morning drain the mixture and grind the lentils without using excess water.
  4. The batter should be thick.
  5. Whisk the smooth batter in a Stand mixer or with hand blender.
  6. The Batter will become lighter in color after some time and you will feel that it looks fluffy.
  7. To check if the batter is ready drop a small tiny ball in a bowl full of water .If lentil batter floats on the surface your batter is ready for frying.
  8. Fry the bhallsas on medium heat till they are a light golden color.
  9. Prepare a big pot filled with medium hot water .Add some salt and asafoetida.
  10. Soak the dahi bhalla in water. After 2-3 hours they soak the water and become twice as big.
  11. Meanwhile prepare the yogurt after whisking it with a bit of salt and sugar (that depends on your taste)
  12. Remove all the water from dahi bhalla by squeezing them between your palms.
  13. Now place them in serving platter .Pour ,yogurt ,chutney and spice powders.
  14. Enjoy. Serve them chilled for more taste.
