Dal ki Dulhan/Dal ki Pitthi

Hand made whole wheat dumplings in a lentil soup.

Ingredients
  

  • For the Dal
  • 1.5 Cups Arhar Dal
  • 5 Cups Water
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • Salt according to test.
  • For the Dulhan
  • 2 Cup Whole wheat flour
  • ½ Tsp Red chili Powder
  • ½ Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ Tsp Ajwain seeds(Carrom seeds)
  • ½ Tsp Kasoori methi
  • Salt according to taste.
  • Water to make the dough.
  • For tempering /Tadka
  • 1 Tsp Cumin seeds
  • ½ Cup Chopped onion
  • 1 Tsp Green chili chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Chopped Garlic
  • 1 Tsp Ginger chopped
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Cilantro for garnish.
  • 2 Tbsp Ghee
  • 1or 2 Dry red chil

Method
 

  1. For the Dal
  2. Wash the Dal and cook the dal with salt ,turmeric and water in the pressure cooker or instant pot ,till its done .
  3. After its done ,whisk it thoroughly for a even soup like texture.
  4. Keep it aside.
  5. In a large bowl take whole wheat flour,salt ,turmeric ,Ajwain ,fenugreek leaves and chili powder . Mix it properly and with the help of water make a nice supple dough.
  6. Cover it with a damp cloth and keep aside .
  7. After 15 minutes take the dough ,make small balls out of it and make small pitthis or dulhan like the pics is shown . If you want you can use your own shape as well.
  8. Add one by one these pitthis in the dal then add one cup of water and let it cook for 4 minute in instant pot or till 2 whistles in pressure cooker . you can make this in patila as well.
  9. Take a small pan or wok for tempering .
  10. Add ghee. Heat it.
  11. Add cumin seeds ,Dry red chilies,asafoetida,onion ,ginger and garlic .
  12. Fry it nicely .
  13. Add hari mirch and cilantro leaves.
  14. If you want to do double tadka . you can do that with one table spoon of ghee and ½ tsp of red chili powder . don't burn the chili powder though otherwise it will change its color to brown or black. .
  15. If you want you can use little lemon juice as well .
  16. Garnish with cilantro leaves and taste the seasoning.
  17. Serve it warm .
