Black Eyed Peas Curry/ Lobia Masala

Black Eyed Peas Curry or Lobia Masala is a North Indian style curry. Black-eyed Peas are cooked to melt-in-the-mouth perfection in an onion-tomato gravy. It's a one-pot, vegan, protein-rich curry.

Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 Cups Black Eyed Beans
  • 1 Medium Onion ,chopped
  • 1 Medium Tomato Chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 Tsp Chopped Garlic
  • ½ Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 Tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
  • ½ Tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • ¼ Cup Tomato Puree
  • Salt according to the taste.
  • 2 Small Bay leaves
  • ½ Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Dry red chilies
  • 1 Inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 1.5 Tbsp Avocado oil or oil of your choice.
  • 1 Tbsp Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish.

Method
 

  1. Soak Black- eyed Peas for 6 hours or overnight .
  2. Turn on the Instant pot.
  3. When it displays hot add oil to it .
  4. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf ,dry red chilli and cinnamon.
  5. Let them crackle.
  6. Add chopped garlic and saute them for 30 second.
  7. Add chopped onion and saute .Add ginger garlic paste and saute till onion looks transparent and raw smell is gone.
  8. Add all the spices at this point of time .Stirand cook for 1 minute.
  9. Add chopped tomato and tomato puree .Stir to make a nice masala mix .Add salt at this time .
  10. After 2-3 minytes of sauteing you will notice that it is releasing some oil and appears like a mushy paste .
  11. Add black eyed beans to it .Mix everything together .
  12. Add two cups of water if you want thick curry and three cups of water for thinner curry .
  13. Close the lid .Turn the vent in seal in position .
  14. Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes.Let the pressure release naturally .
  15. Remove the lid .Adjust the seasoning .
  16. Garnish with fresh cilantro .
  17. Enjoy.
